Workspace & Permissions
MariMap is a multi-tenant workspace. What you can see and do depends on:
- The organisation you are in
- The project you have selected
- The privacy baseline (organisation and project)
- Your role/permissions
The core hierarchy
MariMap work is organised as:
- Organisation: people, governance, default privacy
- Project: delivery scope, reporting context, claim/governance metadata
- Site: spatial monitoring unit (geometry)
- Survey plan: reusable sampling setup
- Survey: a single execution instance (date + data)
- Report: an output compiled from surveys (with filters and disclosure options)
Selecting scope (organisation and project)
Most pages use the currently selected project as the primary scope. If something “disappears”, first check:
- Your selected organisation (top selector)
- Your selected project (top selector)
- Filters (date range, status filters)
Privacy rules (how “Public vs Private” flows)
MariMap supports privacy at multiple levels. In general:
- An organisation can set a default privacy baseline.
- A project can inherit the organisation baseline or set a stricter privacy.
- A site typically inherits project privacy unless you set it explicitly.
Important behavior:
- If a parent scope is private, child items are often locked to private.
- If you need to share data externally, prefer:
- Adding partner users with appropriate roles
- Using reports/exports with controlled distribution
- Recording data-sharing agreement and sovereignty status (when relevant)
Roles and typical responsibilities
Most teams map to a few common role patterns:
- Admin / Governance owner
- Sets organisation defaults (privacy), invites members, controls who can create projects
- Maintains data-sharing and consent posture
- Project manager
- Creates projects and sites, sets reporting context, creates survey plans
- Owns QA/QC and reporting cadence
- Field lead
- Uses survey plans, creates surveys, supervises data entry quality
- Ensures consistent execution of protocols
- Analyst / Reporting lead
- Reviews surveys, interprets analytics, prepares reports
- Uses Metrics Reference to standardize interpretation and disclosures
- Partner viewer
- View-only access to agreed scope; may export or review reports if permitted
Troubleshooting access issues
If you can’t find “Create” buttons or can’t edit:
- Confirm you’re in the right organisation and project.
- Confirm your role includes create/edit permissions.
- Check whether parent privacy is forcing child privacy or restricting actions.
- If you need a new permission set, ask an org admin to adjust your role.
